Come and hear EYPO perform a great programme of Film Music and popular classics followed by EYO performing Shostakovich’s Symphony No.11 in G minor, Op.103 (‘The Year 1905’), and Smetana’s epic piece Vltava (The Moldau) from Má vlast

This concert will also feature the talented players of the Essex Youth String Octet performing a new piece by the Octet’s violinist, Isabella Patrick called Waves.

Music Theatre Workshop with Emma Sweeney (February 2025)

Join one of the UK’s leading vocalists and performers for a day of vocal exploration!

Come and join us for an open workshop focusing on Musical Theatre, as well as vocal technique, singing in parts with others, and meeting other young singers!

The workshop is aimed at anyone from aged 10-15.

Who is Emma?

Emma Sweeney is an Essex based singer and vocal coach specialising in Musical Theatre.  Emma completed an MA in Acting Musical Theatre at CSSD and has a Masters in Vocal Pedagogy with the Voice Study Centre.  Her theatre performance work has been mainly small scale touring, Christmas shows, concerts and radio before embarking on a career teaching and coaching young singers.  

The focus of Emma’s coaching is establishing efficient body and breath coordination, storytelling and emotional connection to songs in performance. Whilst teaching she keeps up to date with the latest developments in voice research ensuring best practice to maintain healthy voices.

Alongside her teaching and coaching Emma directs youth musicals and professional Christmas Musicals at Brentwood Theatre.

Essex Youth Orchestra perform at Chelmsford Rotary’s New Year Charity Concert

Date and time: Saturday 4 January 2025, 7.30 – 9.30pm

Admission (including programme): Adults £12, Eighteen and under £5

Venue: Chelmsford Cathedral, Duke Street, Chelmsford CM1 1EH

Conducted by Robin Browning and Jane Hammond, this concert will feature Nielsen’s Aladdin Suite, Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite No. 2 and Giacchino’s Star Trek Suite: Into Darkness and Beyond.

The orchestra will also be performing a new piece by composer, Atharv Gupta. Atharv who plays trombone in Essex Youth Orchestra and is Assistant Conductor for Essex Young People’s Orchestra, is also establishing himself as composer of renown, having already won national prizes including BBC Young Composer Award in 2023.

Previous concerts have always been a great success with the young musicians performing to a Cathedral full of families, friends and the general public.
