Encouraging and enjoying improvisation and composition for 5 to 11 year olds
While improvisation is of the moment, a composition can be revisited and refined over time. In this session, we’ll include the activities from the units for ages 5-11 and those found elsewhere and consider ideas to hone and extend improvisation & compositional skills.

This is an opportunity to observe a practical KS2 music lesson. Kristian Parkes will lead a class of KS2 children through an instrumental lesson using a Charanga scheme of work. After this, he will present a CPD session as a follow-up to the observed lesson. Please note the timings of this session: 1.45 pm (Lesson Demonstration), 3.30 pm (CPD Session) finish 5.00 pm
In this session, we will explore various performance, improvising and composing techniques for different age groups and levels of ability – from very simple to quite complex and everything in between. We’ll also see how the various options for notation allow everyone to engage at their level.
Inspire and nurture composers, improvisers, and performers. The four iPad projects were devised after extensive work in special needs and alternative provision settings. Offering video and supporting materials enables everyone to lead exciting, creative music-making sessions.
