Talented young musicians from across Essex are being encouraged to take the next step in their musical journey by auditioning for the Essex Youth Orchestra (EYO).

  • Sunday 6 September 2026, 9.30am to 5.00pm
  • Chelmsford County High School for Girls, Chelmsford CM1 1RW (click here for the location)
  • Price – Free

Bringing together some of the county’s most accomplished young performers, the Essex Youth Orchestra offers members the opportunity to experience the excitement of playing in a full symphony orchestra, performing challenging repertoire and developing their musical skills alongside like-minded peers.

For younger musicians or those earlier in their orchestral development, the Essex Young People’s Orchestra (EYPO) is also welcoming new members. Many EYPO players go on to join Essex Youth Orchestra in later years, creating a clear pathway for aspiring orchestral musicians.

Members of both orchestras benefit from expert coaching from professional musicians, the opportunity to perform outstanding music, and concerts in prestigious venues both in the UK and overseas.

Whether you’re looking to build your confidence, develop your musicianship or experience the thrill of orchestral performance, these ensembles provide an inspiring environment to grow and achieve your potential.

Auditions being held on Sunday 6 September 2026

Musicians performing at approximately Grade 7 level or above on a string, woodwind, brass or percussion instrument are invited to audition for Essex Youth Orchestra.

Auditions will take place on Sunday 6 September 2026 at Chelmsford County High School as part of a free workshop, designed to be a relaxed and welcoming experience for young musicians.
