Music outside of school
Music beyond the school day.
We have a network of out-of-school venues and options for all our young people, be it orchestral, vocal, rock and pop, music tech and more. It’s a great way to bring our young people together.
County ensembles – For more experienced young musicians ready to perform at a high level:
- Essex Youth Orchestra
- Essex Youth Choir
- Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra
- Essex Symphonic Wind Orchestra
- Essex Youth Brass Ensemble
Starter and intermediate ensembles – Success at county level doesn’t happen by accident. We provide clear stepping stones to help young people progress.
We run a range of starter ensembles in local venues, alongside intermediate groups such as the Essex Young People’s Orchestra. These ensembles bring young musicians together to learn, rehearse and perform as part of a supportive musical community.
Community Music Centres – Learn and play locally. Our Community Music Centres run after school and on Saturdays across the Hub region. They are vibrant centres of group music‑making, ideal for beginners and those developing their skills.
- Friendly, supportive group learning
- Instrumental and ensemble opportunities
- Open to a wide range of ages and abilities
