Improvisation: From First Ideas to Musical Fluency

Improvisation gives children permission to explore, take musical risks and discover their own musical voice. But how do we move beyond simply saying “make something up”? This practical session explores how improvisation can be carefully scaffolded from playful early experiences through to increasingly confident and purposeful musical responses. We’ll consider rhythm, pitch, call and response, question and answer, modelling and progression, with accessible ideas you can take straight back to the classroom.
