Composition: Building Creativity from KS1–KS2

How do we move from “make up a piece of music” to genuinely teaching children how to compose? Explore the progression of composition from playful exploration and short musical ideas through to selecting, organising, developing and refining musical material. We’ll consider motif, structure, rhythm, melody, timbre, texture and technology, alongside practical scaffolding that gives children enough support to succeed without making every creative decision for them.
